What would be the advantages and disadvantages of using the
ELP with my groups?
I am a Physical Education teacher in primary school.
According to my experience the advantages of using ELP are much bigger than the
disadvantages.
The advantages would be the following:
The ELP is a very effective and positive tool for students
because they can assess their own learning which is motivating for them because
they see their evolution. Apart from this, the ELP helps them to record their
personal language experience and attain personal goals.
Teachers know exactly what their level is, as well as
their motivation and attitude of
students about learning languages. So
teachers will be able to prepare better classes, with contents more related to their real
interests. Moreover, With the ELP students
recognize and value what they can do in another language. They can also
record all their language skills and experiences with other cultures. At the
same time it helps them to think about and plan for the future.
CV can be complemented with the ELP. The Dossier
section illustrates what they can do using another language, and
employers in different countries will recognize it.
Regarding the disadvantages, it may have the rejection of
teachers and parents. Many teachers and parents continue thinking and working
with test scores and they would be difficult to convince.
Summarizing, for the ELP is important the multilingualism
building and multicultural diversity, and the further professional development
of teachers who assume greater autonomy in curriculum development language. We
should inform teachers and parents about the theoretical justification of its
implementation, evolution and results.
In conclusion, the great advantage would be a higher quality
of the teaching-learning process, because students learn to be responsible and
independent for their own learning process. It also works for the integration
of students with different cultures, since the ELP focuses on the diversity of
languages and cultures.
The most important thing to teach if there were not regional
curriculum
As a teacher of Physical Education, if I were not limited by
the demands of the regional curriculum, I would like to teach more social
skills because this particular subject is already very practical-
This kind of learning would be very important in their
lives, therefore, this experiences would help them to choose better their daily
life.
Of course, including the CLIL context in a motivating
environment as the Physical Education
will help students to learn faster, vocabulary, actions in a significant
way.
The most important thing is to begin from what a child
likes. And from this, the child should increase his/her knowlodge. This system
is used in infantile school but it is often forgotten in primary school.
This way, motivation is bigger and as a consequence the
learning is bigger too. Closed curricula are not motivating causing teachers to
think more about the contents than about children.
Students must participate in both the choice and evaluation
of contents. This way, students feel more appreciated.
In conclusión, I think teachers must forget the classical
guidelines and focus on what children need and like. The guidelines and
materials must be a way to help learning but not the most important thing since
we cannot forget that education revolves around children.
Which training courses would you like to have access to as a
teacher? Why?
As a Physical Education teacher I currently give some lessons in English. I
would like to have access a training specialized courses about how could I
improve my English lessons, because I think that if you don’t pronounce fine
the words, you can do that the students could have many problems to understand
what you want explain and of course the students could learn English in a bad
way.
There exist many courses in the market about methods,
techniques, sports….But there is little
help for teachers to accede them. Also at schools the offer for these materials
and sports is rather limited. Most schools don’t have gyms and the material for
practicing physical education is scarce. It is difficult or imposible to do
riding, skating, swimming, etc. So, the formation we, teachers are giving them
cannot be put into practice.
But above all, I would like to highlight the necessity for
improving the English language, so important to teach our subjects to our
students through a good grounding in this language, so what matters to me Is
that our students could learn with the highest quality. This is our the primary
obligation as a teacher.
